BACK for the second time this year, District Race Malaysia by AIA Vitality attracted some 12,000 participants in the engaging and fun digital urban exploration event from Oct 18 to Nov 7.

In just three weeks, the event saw over 13 million district points accumulated and a total of 47,000km covered by all the participants.

Inspired by this achievement, AIA Malaysia will do its part by donating 4,000 meals to families in need, according to AIA Bhd chief marketing officer Heng Zee Wang.

“Through this unique event, not only were we able to encourage Malaysians to lead healthier lives by actively participating in it, but also do our part to give back to the community – upholding our commitment to support every opportunity to empower ‘healthier, longer, better lives’,” he said.

The meals were donated to Kechara Soup Kitchen to feed families who have been affected by the pandemic.

To spur locals to stay healthy and keep active, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, the District Race Malaysia was first introduced in March 2021.

The first race proved to be a huge success with some 11,000 runners participating in this fun way to keep healthy.

On top of that, participants were in the running to win any of the 40 fabulous prizes offered such as Garmin watches, adidas vouchers as well as the coveted grand prize – a brand new Proton X50.

According to District Technologies chief operating officer Chris Cable, runners look forward to events such as this to validate their dedication and physical wellness when they complete the race.

“However, with the pandemic, cancellation of mass participation running events left a void that was definitely felt by the running community.

“This was one of the main factors in deciding to host a digital race with District Race Malaysia by AIA Vitality earlier this year, to continue giving runners something to be excited about in their running lifestyle,” he said.

Cable added that the event proved successful with participants enjoying the flexibility on when to race, while collecting points, unlocking fun augmented reality selfie filters, and also being in the running to win fabulous prizes.

In this latest instalment, runners were treated to some 48 new run challenges across eight states in Malaysia, while scoring as many points as possible.

All points went up the leaderboard, which displayed the ranks of those in the lead – with the chance to win amazing prizes such as a Garmin Forerunner 645 or RM500 Shopee vouchers.

Angeline Chia Ya Sian was the winner in the Most Run Challenges completed category, while Dave Goh and Ooi Ning Enn took home the prize for top male and female participant.

Hooi Soon Wai, John Lau and AsokPrem Appu won in the Most Committed Explorer lucky draw.
