Shamirul upstages Filipino No. 1 for KL Open title

PETALING JAYA: Teenager Shamirul Shahril Ahmad Das warmed up for his maiden SEA Games tennis appearance next month in fine style by powering his way to the Betamek KL Open men’s singles title.

The 19-year-old beat Philippines No. 1 ranked player Alberto Jr Lim 6-4,2-6,6-2 in the final at the National Tennis Centre in KL yesterday to become only the second Malaysian winner after Ahmad Deedat Abdul Razak in 2016 to achieve the feat.
