PETALING JAYA: The BMW Malaysian Open tennis championship has proven to be a lucky hunting ground for first time winners on the WTA Tour.

Russia’s Alisa Kleybanova won the inaugural tournament in 2010 before Taiwan’s Hsieh Hsu-wei (2012), Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova (2013) and Croatia’s Donna Vekic (2014) followed suit as first time winners.
