SINGAPORE can now start their countdown as the anticipated BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global is less than a month away, bringing with it a sports entertainment festival comprising of top-class tennis tournaments and lifestyle activities within the Singapore Sports Hub and the city.
The 2014 WTA Finals stretches over a period of ten days, from 17 to 26 October. This is a significant extension from past editions of the previously-named WTA Championships, where the 2013 event inIstanbul ran over six days.
Other than witnessing top women’s tennis athletes vie for their share of the record-breaking USD$6.5mil (RM16.4mil) prize money on offer, the fan festival at the WTA Finals will also include interactive activities for sports enthusiasts and leisure visitors alike, such as the chance to meet the tennis stars in person at player meet-and-greet sessions.
One of the highly-anticipated events is the inaugural WTA Rising Stars Exhibition, a four-match standoff between four up-and-coming WTA stars from Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world.
Twenty one Rising Stars aged 23-years-old and under have been nominated, and fans have the opportunity to choose who they would like to see face-off via an online poll accessible till 3 October 2014 at www.wtafinals.com/Rising-Star-Poll
The four finalists, comprising two from each category, will be flown to Singapore to play on Centre Court of the Singapore Indoor Stadium, giving them a chance to share the same stage as the world’s top 8 women’s tennis stars.
This year’s WTA Finals also presents a flashback from the past with the WTA Legends Exhibition.
If WTA Rising Star Exhibition is about the future tennis athletes, WTA Legends Exhibition is about the great past sportswomen. Former champions Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Marion Bartoli and Iva Majoli have confirmed their participation to battle it out on the tennis court.
With an agenda that promises a lively, adrenaline-inducing experience, the WTA Finals is an event not to be missed. To be a part of the excitement, tickets are available from S$16.90 (RM42) to S$195.90 (RM495).
