Ambitious teenager Vekic targets Wimbledon glory

BIRMINGHAM: Donna Vekic, a 16-year-old playing on grass for the first time on the WTA Tour, proved that she is a future Wimbledon contender by the speed with which she upset the seedings at the Birmingham WTA tournament.

The tall Croatian’s 6-2, 6-1 win over Sorana Cirstea, the third-seeded Romanian, was her career-best in ranking terms and was almost nervelessly taken despite the stressful conditions.
