KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Swimming (MS) are planning to send the national squad to the European Swimming Championships, slated to be held from May 17-23 in Budapest, Hungary.
MS secretary-general Mae Chen said the competition is part of their preparation ahead of the SEA Games in Vietnam, later this year.
She also revealed that the national squad have resumed their training at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil under the quarantine-based approach after the swimmers underwent the Covid-19 swab test at the National Sports Council, recently.
“We are planning to organise the Malaysia Invitational Age-Group (MIAG) meet and also the Malaysia Open, besides sending our swimmers for the European Championship in May, ” said Mae Chen.
She, however, added that their participation depended on the Covid-19 situation.
Prior to this, the national squad were supposed to take part in the National Sports Day swimming competition from Oct 9-11 last year but MS decided to call it off due to a spike in Covid-19 cases in the country. — Bernama
