KUALA LUMPUR: Major (rtd) S. Maniam has stepped down as national coaching director and will be replaced by current coach Andrew Cross.

Maniam will still remain in the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) as an advisor.

"I have mixed feelings about leaving my position as national coaching director but I believe it's the right time for me to step aside and allow a young and dynamic team to take over," said Maniam in a press conference at the SRAM office in Jalan Duta on Tuesday (Oct 22).

"I have full confidence in Andrew to lead the team well as he is very experienced and knows the players very well."

Meanwhile, senior coach Ajaz Azmat has been named high-performance coach while Shahril Shahidan will assume the role of head coach.

The changes will officially be in place from Jan 1.
