National mixed pair Syafiq-Aifa reach final in Asian Games


HANGZHOU: National squash pair Mohd Syafiq Kamal and Aifa Azman have reached the mixed doubles final to ensure at least silver for Malaysia at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Syafiq-Kamal prevented an all-India final affair after beating Abhay Singh-Anahat Singh 8-11, 11-2, 11-9 in the semi-final at HOC Squash Centre on Wednesday (Oct 4).

Syafiq-Kamal will take on India's Harinder Pal Sandhu-Deepika Pallikal Karthik in the final on Thursday (Oct 5).

Harinder-Deepika defeated Hong Kong's Wong Chi Him-Lee Ka Yi 7-11, 11-7, 11-9 in the other semi-final match.

It is the first time the mixed doubles event is taking place at the Asian Games.
