England beat Malaysia in world junior squash team semis

PETALING JAYA: England halted Malaysia’s gallant run in the World Junior men’s team squash championship when they secured a 2-1 win in the semi-finals in Nancy, France on Saturday (Aug 20).

Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah lost 11-8, 11-1, 11-9 to individual event runner-up Finnlay Withington in the first match.

However, C. Ameeshanraj played brilliantly to beat Sam Osborne-Wylde 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4 to keep Malaysia’s hopes alive in the semi-final tie.

In the deciding third match, Jonah Bryant proved too strong for Harith Danial Jefri by securing a 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 win to send England into the final.

England will play defending champions Egypt, who defeated Pakistan 2-1, in the final on Sunday (Aug 21). In the third placing playoff, Malaysia will play Pakistan.

RESULTS

Semi-finals: England bt Malaysia 2-1; Egypt bt Pakistan 2-1.
