Kudos pour in for squash legend’s success

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians from all walks of life led by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah congratulated Nicol David.

The King said it is proof that Malaysia are capable of producing top athletes who are capable of reaching the highest stage.

“I hope all Malaysians will emulate the spirit she showed to achieve glory for the country, ” he said in a statement on the official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hoped her achievements will motivate more people to continue to strive and make the country proud in whatever field they are in.

“Alongside the sports community, especially fans of squash in the country, I am proud of the achievements of our former national squash queen Datuk Nicol Ann David for being crowned the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time.

“To the younger generation, emulate Nicol to strive for greater achievement, ” said Muhyiddin in a posting on his Facebook page yesterday.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican also thanked squash fans, especially fellow Malaysians, for making sure Nicol secured the highest number of votes since voting started early last month.

“It’s a deserving achievement for her. I am touched by the strong support shown by Malaysians and it is a big recognition for her and the country.

“Hopefully, this will be the motivation to the current athletes to keep working hard to achieve good performances in every competition they take part in, ” said Reezal.

National track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang said Nicol inspires Malaysians to be the best with her exploits.

“Very well deserved and you’re an inspiration to all Malaysians, ” he said.
