THE national squash team again showed their dominance in South-East Asia, meeting their target with a four-gold sweep. And they did it without the services of the country’s top four athletes, namely men’s players Ng Eain Yow, Ivan Yuen and women’s players Low Wee Wern and S. Sivasangari.
Addeen Idrakie and Rachel Arnold won their respective men’s and women individual events while Chan Yiwen also took the silver in the women’s singles.
The only setback came when Darren Rahul Pragasam fell to experienced Filipino player Robert Garcia. Darren finished with the bronze medal.
Addeen then led Darren, Ong Sai Hung and Ryan Pasqual to the gold in the men’s team events, redeeming themselves after their shocking loss to the Philippines in the semi-finals in Kuala Lumpur 2017.
Rachel, meanwhile, led the team of Lai Wen Li, Ooi Kah Yan and debutant Yee Xin Ying to defend their women’s team gold.
The women’s team did it without the services of Chan Yiwen who had to rush back to Kuala Lumpur for family matters. Xin Ying took Yiwen’s place at the last minute.
