PETALING JAYA: National squash player Ng Eain Yow lived up to his status as the new national No. 1 as he checked into the men’s quarter-final of the Macau Open.
The 21-year-old, who overtook Nafiizwan Adnan in the rankings this month, justified it on the court when he defeated his senior 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 in 73 minutes in the second round yesterday.
There was no better way for the former world junior champion and current world No. 37 to begin his reign as the top ranked Malaysian than by defeating his predecessor who dropped six spots to 40th in world.
However, it was the end of the road for Ivan Yuen, who gave a good fight but still went down 4-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 5-11 to world No. 22 Max Lee of Hong Kong in 66 minutes.
