KUALA LUMPUR: National junior Chan Yiwen has returned to top form after a nine-month break to reach the SRAM PSA 1 tournament final.

The 18-year-old took just 24 minutes to upset top seed Lai Wen Li in 11-5, 11-6, 11-3 in the semi-finals at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

It’s her first Professional Squash Association (PSA) tournament since her comeback.

The eighth seeded Yiwen faces teammate Ainaa Amani, who defeated Amirah Rusydina Rosli 11-9, 11-2, 11-6, for the title today.

Yiwen said was happy to reach the final after the long layoff.

“It is my first PSA tournament in nine months and I am just one match away from winning it,” said Yiwen, whose ranking has dropped from 100 to 195 due to her inactivity.

“I’m not surprised to beat Wen Li as I used to be ranked higher than her before the break.

“I’ve beaten Ainaa before and I’ll stay focused in final tomorrow (today) to win the PSA title,” said Yiwen.

In the men’s competition, second seed Mohd Syafiq Kamal eliminated fourth seed Tang Ming Hong of Hong 11-7, 11-9, 11-3 to set up a date with top seed Aditya Jagtap of India in the final.MencTypeface:> Mohd Syafiq Kamal (Mas) bt Tang Ming Hong (Hkg) 11-7, 11-9, 11-3; Aditya Jagtap (Ind) bt Addeen Idrakie (Mas) 11-8, 9-11, 14-12, 8-11, 11-8.
