Andrea ready to crush buddy Zoe for chance to play Nicol

PETALING JAYA: Andrea Lee is ready to put aside her friendship with Zoe Foo in her bid to get a shot at Nicol David at the Ohana National Squash Championships.

Joint third-fourth seed Andrea, the world No. 92, has a first-round bye. She takes on world No. 138 Zoe in the quarter-finals at the NSC Squash Centre in Jalan Duta today.

The winner will get a rare chance to take on eight-time world champion Nicol in the semi-finals.

Nicol, who is playing in the nationals for the first time since 2013, takes on either Chan Yiwen or Aika Azman in the quarter-finals.

“It’s going to be tough against Zoe. We have been good friends and training partners since young,” said the 18-year-old Andrea.

“But the chance to play Nicol is a real motivation for me. I definitely won’t get a chance to play her in another tournament because she’s so highly ranked in the world.

“I want to know where I stand against Nicol. If possible I hope to take a set off her.

“Besides that, it is also important to beat Zoe because it will determine our seedings at the World Junior Championships in New Zealand (July 19-29),” added Andrea.
