Nicol and Wee Wern came through US Open start

DUBAI: Malaysia’s Nicol David and Low Wee Wern got off to winning starts in the US$115,000 (RM374,000) US Open in Philadelphia, albeit in contrasting fashions.

The 31-year-old Nicol brushed aside former sparring partner Samantha Teran of Mexico 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 to get off to a perfect start in her bid for a record third straight US Open title. The seven-time world champion, who is enjoying her 99th straight month on top of the world rankings, will next take on Australian veteran Rachael Grinham.
