MALAYSIA are guaranteed of two medals after both the men’s and women’s team events qualified for the semi-finals of the squash competition.
The men scored two wins in Group A at the Yeorumul Squash Courts yesterday, edging Jordan 2-1 and then beating Japan 3-0.
Leaders Malaysia still have one more group match against India today.
On Tuesday, Malaysia were 3-0 winners over China in their opening match. Against Jordan, Incheon singles bronze medallist Ong Beng Hee outplayed Alsaraj Ahmad 11-3, 11-5, 11-9 while Azlan Iskandar whipped Abdullah Ibrahim 11-3, 11-4, 11-1.
Ivan Yuen could not get his game going and went down 11-13, 10- 12, 8-11 to Alsaraj Moham.
Beng Hee again started the ball rolling against Japan, beating Fukui Yuta 11-8, 11-8, 11-7. Mohamed Nafiizwan Adnan secured the winning point by beating Tsukue Shinnosukue 11-7, 13-11, 11-6.
Ivan made amends for his earlier defeat by whipping Shimizu Takanori 11-6, 11-8, 11-4.
In the women’s event, Malaysia, who rested singles silver medallist Low Wee Wern, secured their first win in three-team Group A by thrashing Japan 3-0.
Singles gold medallist Nicol David proved too strong for Misaki Kobahashi, winning 11-5, 11-3, 11-9.
Delia Arnold, however, was stretched to the limit by Matsui Chinatsu before winning 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-7.
Youngster Vanessa Raj secured the third point with an 11-6, 11-9, 11-2 win.
Malaysia face hosts South Korea today.
