Rise of Chen Jie gives hope for SEA Games rifle medal in Thailand

Going great guns: Gan Chen Jie competing in the women’s 50m rifle prone at the Asian Olympic qualifiers in Jakarta on Jan 14.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have not won a SEA Games shooting gold in the rifle events since 2017 Kuala Lumpur but the emergence of Gan Chen Jie and her teammates has raised the possibility of ending the wait in Thailand next year.

Chen Jie, 19, made a strong impact at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jakarta where she secured the women’s 50m rifle prone silver (619.6) and missed out on a place in the 50m rifle three position final by finishing ninth (583) on Sunday.
