Suryani ‘well-conditioned’ to face any situation

PETALING JAYA: Unpredictable weather conditions will not distract national shooter Nur Suryani Taibi in the 50m rifle three positions starting today at the Asaka Shooting Range.

Suryani has experienced different conditions over the last six days in training.

The first few days were sunny and windy, but rain and strong winds affected her training the last few days.

Suryani’s coach Yusri Jusoh, however, is not worried as he is confident that the 38-year-old can adapt to any conditions.

“It’s good that she has experienced many conditions as she will be prepared to face any situation during the competition,” said Yusri.

“We’ve wrapped up our training on a good note. Suryani is emotionally and physically ready. Everything has been smooth since she came to Tokyo.”

Although the world’s top eight ranked shooters are taking part, Yusri said there were no overwhelming favourites.

“It all depends on the competition day. Some of these shooters have had only five competitions before coming here. In our case, we only had online competitions.”

Suryani, who is competing in her second Olympics, has to finish in the top eight out of 29 competitors to qualify for the final.
