PETALING JAYA: The part-time shooters in the national team need not despair as they have been told to be on guard.
National shooting coach Yusri Jusoh said priority are now given to the regular shooters to train at the National Sports Council (NSC) Range in Bukit Jalil.
The management want to ensure that these shooters undergo training without any issues before bringing in the part-timers.
He said the first week is crucial as they must ensure that all shooters are free from Covid-19 before training resumes.
The part-timers are Mohd Luthfi Othman, Bibiana Ng and Johnathan Wong while Nur Suryani Taibi, Alia Sazana Azahari, Siau Zianyi, Haritz Iklil Hessly Hafiz, Nur Izazi Rosli, Alia Husna Budruddin, Sharifah Noor Elyana Syed Abdul Hamid and Dina Batrisyia Adi Azhar will report tomorrow.
They will undergo their swab test on Monday.
“The three part-timers need not worry as it will be a short wait, ” said Yusri.
“They have called in to enquire about the training sessions and we told them the reasons why they are left out at the moment.
“We want them join too but because of the pandemic, we have to be careful.”
Yusri said once training resumes, which could be on Wednesday or Thursday, it will be back to basics as the shooters have not trained for four months.
They will not be put on competition mode just yet as Yusri prefers to assess their fitness, strength and endurance in the first month.
“For now, we do not know of any competition dates, so I’m not going to rush them.
“Once we get the dates, only then we will hold competition drills.”
The senior and junior shooters have only competed in the Selangor Shooting Championship and NSAM President Ally T.H. Ong Trophy this year.
