On the double: Mohd Lutfi Othman won gold in the 50m rifle three position individual and team event.

KUALA LUMPUR: Muhd Lutfi Othman overcame poor visibility to shoot down two gold medals on the first day of the Selangor Shooting Championships.

Lutfi, representing Combined University Sports Council (Masum), chalked up 445.4 points in the 50m rifle three position event at the National Shooting Range in Subang yesterday.

Selangor’s Haritz Iklil Hessly Hafiz amassed 442.0 points to settle for silver while another Masum shooter Zul Haziq Rosli bagged the bronze with 427.8 points.

Lutfi also won the team event with Zul Haziq and Muhd Zubair Mohamad.

The 25-year-old Lutfi, who finished 19th in the 10m air rifle event at the World University Games in Naples, Italy, recently, was satisfied with his performance despite the conditions at the range.

“I could not score higher due to the rain. But it’s a good start for me.

“Unfortunately, the event will not be contested at the SEA Games (in the Philippines from Nov 30-Dec 11).

“But the win has motivated me to aim for another gold in the 10m air rifle event.

“I need to finish in the top two tomorrow to qualify for the Games,” said Lutfi.
