Bodybuilder Syarul crowned Best Athlete at SAM Awards


Five-time world champion bodybuilder Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah and para shuttler Cheah Liek Hou both received trophies and RM10,000 prize money each from Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who officiated the awards ceremony in Petaling Jaya.

PETALING JAYA: It continues to be a rewarding year for world champion bodybuilder Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah (pic) as he was crowned the Best Athlete for 2022 in the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS 2022 Awards last night.

Syarul, who was awarded a Datukship earlier this year, beat world champion badminton doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, snooker ace Lim Kok Leong, Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medallist Aniq Kasdan and rhythmic gymnast Ng Joe Ee, who dazzled for Malaysia with a double gold also in Birmingham.
