Our paddlers cruise into second round in Solihull


IT was smooth sailing for the table tennis players as all three pairs advanced to the second round of the mixed doubles at the National Exhibition Centre in Solihull.

Choong Javen-Karen Lyne was the first pair to advance after defeating Australia’s Yan Xin-Lay Jian Fang 3-1 and will face South Africa’s Chetan Ooka Nathoo-Danisha Jayavant Patel for a place in the third round.

Wong Qi Shen teamed up with Tee Ai Xin to beat India’s Sanil Shetty-Reeth Tennison 3-2 to set up a date with Guyana’s Shemar Britton-Chelsea Edghill.

The third combination, Leong Chee Feng-Ho Ying, had a straightforward 3-0 win over another Guyana pair, Jonathan van Lange-Thuraia Thomas.

In the second round, Chee Feng-Ho Ying will take on Mauritius’ Brian Chan Yook Fo and Oumehani Hosenally.

Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles round of 32, Alice Chang Li Sian-Ai Xin will play Canada’s Fu Ching Nam-Zhang Mo today.
