Siti in ruins

SITI Zalina Ahmad’s hot streak in lawn bowls ended with heartbreak in the semi-final.

The 42-year-old Malaysian fought hard towards the end in the singles but it was not enough as she was beaten by Guernsey’s Lucy Beere 15-21.

In the first 13 ends, Zalina only collected six points while Beere asserted her dominance with 16.

But in the next seven ends, Zalina showed character and determination to close the deficit.

She collected eight points while Beere only had two, which saw the scoreline at 14-18.

But in the next three ends, the 39-year-old Beere recomposed herself and got two points to hit 20.

But Zalina refused to throw in the towel as she hit 15 in end 23.

In the next end, Beere confirmed her spot in the final by sealing a point to win 21-15.

Zalina will take on Norfolk Islands’ Shae Wilson in the bronze medal playoff while Beere sets up a date with Australia’s Ellen Ryan for the gold medal.

In the quarter-finals, Zalina was in her element when she beat Cook Islands’ Nooroa Mataio 21-14.

Zalina won the singles gold medal in the 2002 Manchester and 2006 Melbourne Games.
