It's silver for women's table tennis team after loss to Singapore


Paddlers settled for silver in Birmingham after losing 3-0 to Singapore.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian women's table tennis team settled for silver after going down 0-3 to Singapore in the final at the National Exhibition Centre on Monday (August 1)

Doubles pair Ho Ying-Karen Lyne gave their all but it was not enough as they lost out 11-7, 4-11, 6-11, 5-11 to Zhou Jingyi-Zeng Jian.

In the singles, Alice Chang Li Sian went down 9-11, 7-11, 1-11 to Feng Tianwei.

All eyes were on Ho Ying with a hope that she will spark a fightback but she could not save the tie and ended up losing 3-11, 4-11, 11-8, 5-11 to Zeng Jian.

The team can still hold their heads high after equalling their best achievement in the Games. Malaysia last won a silver at the 2014 edition in Glasgow.

On the way to the final, they had stunned defending champions India and Wales.
