KL Towerthon to return after two-year hiatus due to Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: The iconic KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge is set to return on Aug 14, after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

JomRun Founder and managing director Chang Yi Hern said around 2,000 runners including some 200 foreigners are expected to participate in the race to climb the 2,058 steps, bringing finishers to a staggering 288m above the grounds of Kuala Lumpur.

He said that as of now, almost 1,000 participants had already registered for the race, complying with the rules of the Towerrunning World Association.

“We are glad to see the majority of our participants are Malaysians, as well as foreigners from Singapore, Brazil, Japan, and Germany. Our oldest contestant is 73 years old and the youngest is 11,” said Yi Hern.

“We have taken precautions to ensure the safety of the runners to avoid any injuries. Runners will be running up one by one, and the winners will be determined based on the time taken to complete the challenge,” he said.

The registration is open until Aug 12, with early bird rates of RM80 for Malaysians and RM180 for foreigners. — Bernama
