National Stadium closed for repair works

PETALING JAYA: The National Stadium in Bukit Jalil will be closed for an indefinite time from today for repair works.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu ordered this after heavy criticism over the condition of the pitch during the Asian Cup qualifier between Malaysia and Bahrain last Saturday.

“The Youth and Sports Ministry takes a serious view of the quality of the field and facilities at the National Stadium and will not risk the country’s image,” he said.

“This issue over the condition of the field needs to be dealt with immediately. Our plan was to close the National Stadium at the end of March 2023 for repair works but this is no longer feasible due to the current situation.

“Therefore, the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil will be closed from tomorrow (June 15) for repair works to start as soon as possible.”
