SEA Games: Sharmendran retains kumite title, helps karate team meet three-gold target


HANOI: R. Sharmendran has ensured that the Malaysian karate team achieves its three-gold target at the SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, after successfully retaining his men's kumite below 75kg title.

Sharmendran overcame Indonesian Kandou Ignatius Joshua in the final.

Newcomers C. Shahmalarani and H. Sureeya Sankar had earlier struck gold for Malaysia in the the women's kumite 50kg and men's kumite 67kg categories, respectively, on Wednesday (May 18).
