Makaf sec gen Azmi will be SEA Games chef de mission

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Karate Federation (Makaf) secretary general Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad is taking over as the chef de mission for the Vietnam SEA Games scheduled to take place next year.

Azmi replaces Football Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, whose withdrawal has been accepted by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).

Hamidin won the deputy president’s seat unopposed in the OCM annual general meeting early this month, replacing Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi.

The Vietnam SEA Games were supposed to take place in November but have been postponed to next year with the dates yet to be decided because of Covid-19 concerns.

The OCM have also named assistant secretary general Moira Tan as the chef de mission for the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing next February.

Wushu Federation of Malaysia president Datuk Chong Kim Fatt will lead the contingent to the Hangzhou Asian Games while Malaysian Rugby Union president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya will be the chef de mission to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year.

Kim Fatt and Shahrul are among the five vice-presidents to serve the OCM for the new term from 2021 to 2025.

Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Jaafar will be the chef de mission to the Asian Youth Games in December 2022 while Datuk Wira Megat Zulkarnain Tan Sri Omardin will take charge of the contingent to the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in March.
