Sailors fail to make waves in rough seas

PETALING JAYA: Choppy seas prevented the national sailors from making a splash at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour.

Strong waves as high as two metres proved to be too much for Khairulnizam Afendy in the Standard Laser event as he could not continue his good form from Tuesday where he finished Race 6 in 13th place.

The 2018 Asian Games silver medallist finished Race 7 in 26th place and Race 8 in 28th place to be ranked 27th with 153 points overall with two races remaining.

Australia’s Matt Wearn tops the standing with 29 points while Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus is second with 44 points.

Nur Shazrin Latif also experienced the same fate in the Radial Laser event where she finished Race 7 in 28th place and Race 8 in 30th place to rank 28th overall on 163 points.

Anne Marie-Rindom of Denmark is on top with 25 points while Tuula Tenkanen of Finland is second with 46 points with two races to go.

Olympic debutants Nuraisyah Jamil-Juni Karimah was ranked 18th overall with 52 points after they finished Race 3 in 18th and Race 4 in 20th in the women’s 470.
