Adrian and Siti ready to defend Open titles in Bangkok

PETALING JAYA: Bowlers Adrian Ang and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman can look forward to defending their respective men and women’s Open titles at the Thailand Open in August.

If all goes well, the Aug 15-27 meet in Bangkok is set to be the first competition for the keglers after a 19-month hiatus.

All the tournaments scheduled in the first half of the year have been postponed to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary-general Maradona Chok said the bowlers would use the Thailand Open to prepare for Vietnam SEA Games in December.

“Besides Thailand Open, we will also compete in the Macau Open (Oct 22-30) and Hong Kong Open (Nov 15-20) before the SEA Games, ” said Maradona.

“Bowlers are eager to impress since they returned to the alley two weeks ago and the atmosphere has been very positive and encouraging too.”

Malaysia made their presence felt at the Thailand Open when it was last staged in February 2019.

Adrian came out tops in the men’s Open division while Siti led the women’s side to a glorious 1-2-3 finish with Nerosha Keligit and Shalin Zulkifli coming in second and third respectively.
