PETALING JAYA: The 2020 Malaysia Games (Sukma) will take place from March 6-14 next year while the 2020 Para Sukma will be from April 5-10 in Johor.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican chaired a teleconference with the stakeholders yesterday to decide on the new dates for both Games.

Sukma was to take place in July but was postponed because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Sukma council also decided that athletes who were registered in the long list before Jan 9 this year will be allowed to take part despite exceeding the age limit as stated earlier. It was also decided that any changes to the long list will be allowed until June 30 this year but only for injuries (certified by doctor) and not getting clearance from employers.

All entries of athletes and events must be submitted by the respective contingents no later than Dec 31.

The Sukma council will meet in October to discuss if the dates will be amended pending any unforeseen changes.

Reezal hoped that all state athletes can continue with their training arrangement given by their respective coaches during the movement control order.
