Bata the legend

FILIPINO pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes has plenty of fans around the world – and that includes Vietnam’s carom billiards star Ngo Dinh Nai. Dinh Nai was so starstruck that he asked for a photograph with the 65-year-old two-time world champion after outclassing him 100-14 in the semi-finals of the 1-Cushion Carom competition.

Red card for six

IX Singapore football players broke curfew while at the SEA Games and will face disciplinary hearings upon their return.The six were found violating the contingent’s code of conduct and returned late to the hotel.

Slow medals

THE medal ceremonies at some sports are quite slow. After one event’s winners get their medals, there is a long wait for the next event’s winners to be presented with their medals. It is hoped the organisers can be half as fast as the participants.

All ages underwater

AGE is not a factor in underwater hockey. The youngest player in Singapore team is 21 and the oldest is 50 while there are four players in their 40s.

Lost gold

Malaysia failed to retain the gold medal in the men’s road team time trial, finishing fifth at Praying Hands Monument, TICC, Tagaytay City.

Muhamad Afiq Huznie Othamn, Nik Mohd Azwan Zulkifle and Muhamaad Ameer Ahmad Kamal finished the 82.4 km race in a time of two hours 10 minutes 01.859 seconds. Thailand bagged the gold on 1’59:39.792s followed by Indonesia (1’59:43.926s) and the hosts (2’01:38.099s).

Rolling on

CUEISTS advanced into the quarter finals after edging their respective opponents in the women’s 9-ball pool doubles event at the Manila Hotel Tent. Suhana Dewi Sabtu partnering Klaudia Djajalie recorded a 7-3 victory over Myanmar A Mi Aung and Thandar Maung in the last 12.
