AN immediate post mortem will take place after Malaysian sailors failed to bring golden cheer from Subic Bay.

In seven classes held yesterday, Malaysia won only one silver and five bronzes at the Subic Yacht Club.

Even the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers Khairulnizam Mohd Afendyy and Nur Shazrin Abd Latif struggled on the choppy waters and managed only bronze medals in the laser standard and laser radial respectively.

In the International 420, Malaysian pair Mohd Fauzi Shah Kaman and Mohd Zahawi Umar Al Faroukwon took the silver in the Under-19 category.

The other bronze medalists are Mohd Faizal Norizan and Ahmad Syukri Abd Aziz (men’s International 470), Nurul Nabila Natasha and Gabrielle Yong (women’s International 420) and Putera Adrine Danish Mohd Puad (Optimist men)

Team manager Nik Ashraf Qaedi Nik Azizan was unhappy with the outcome but is hopeful over the remaining five classes set to be held tomorrow.

“There were many upsets in the seven classes today. Results have not been great, “ said Ashraf.

“Once the Games is over, we have to do a post mortem and quickly find out ways to improve the standard of our sailing.

“We might not reach our four-gold medal target. Lots to ponder when he head home.”

In the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia won six golds, four silvers, and four bronzes.
