IT is a monstrous SEA Games by any proportion. The Philippines hosted 40 sports and introduced arnis and dancesport when they last hosted the Games in 2005.
And they have upped the ante this time after agreeing to take over the host job from Brunei. They have 56 sports. Not only that. Just under half of them, or 24, will be non-Olympic sports, with 11 being quite unheard-of in Malaysia.
