PUTRAJAYA: Home-ground advantage and composure did the trick as Malaysia’s Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah created history by becoming the first Asian waterskier to qualify for a final at the Waterski World Championships.

The eighth person to hit the water in the second series of the women’s tricks preliminaries, the 16-year-old was at her calmest under pressure as she racked up a total of 7, 320 points at the Water Sport Complex in Putrajaya to finish ninth out of 28 skiers yesterday.
