Aaliyah narrowly misses tricks final

PETALING JAYA: It was another narrow miss for Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah as the Malaysian waterski champion failed to enter the tricks final in the Under-21 World Champion­ships.

The 15-year-old finished 14th in the preliminary round with a score of 4,680 points at the Shalom Park Water Ski Site in Edmonton, Alberta, the United States yesterday.

It was just shy of 12th place Nicola Kuhn of Austria who made it into the final with 4,790 points.

American world No. 2 Anna Gay topped the preliminary round with a score of 10,220 points while Canadian reigning world champion Ross Neilly had 9,420 points to finish second.

Hansen Kennedy from the US finished third with 8,480 points.

Earlier, Aaliyah who is a nine-time Asian champion, also failed to make the final cut in the slalom event where she finished 29th in the preliminary round.
