KUALA LUMPUR: With the arrival of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the closing ceremony of the 9th Asean Para Games has begun.
The crowds that have been filling up the stadium since the doors opened at 4pm on Saturday were treated to pre-show performances.
But the ceremony officially began at 8.30pm when Dr Ahmad Zahid made his appearance at the stadium.
His entrance was followed by a rousing performance of Negaraku.
The ceremony marks the end of the six-day Games which pitted para athletes from the 11 countries in the region against each other.
The ceremony is expected to include a parade of the athletes, along with performances featuring the likes of international singer Yuna, speeches from the Games' officials and the declaration that the Games are closed with the extinguishing of the flame of the Games' cauldron.
There is also expected to be a handover ceremony to the Philippines, where the next SEA Games and Asean Para Games will be hosted.
