KUALA LUMPUR: Grace Wong Xiu Mei broke the SEA Games record in the women's hammer event with a hurl of 59.24m at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
The 17-year-old from Sarawak erased the previous record of 56.57m set by Thailand's Mingkamon Koomphon at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.
The Form Four student of Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) said that she was confident of breaking the Games record as she holds the national record of 60.99m set in South Korea in April.
Wong dedicated the medal to her mother (Lina Awaru of Papua New Guinea), who died in April due to illness.
