KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has called on sports fans to buy tickets for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games fast before they are all sold out.
He said that 90% of the tickets for the opening ceremony at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Aug 19 have been sold so far.
The National Stadium, which will also host the athletics competitions from Aug 19-26, has an 87,000 seating capacity.
“I also want to remind again that there will be no public parking at the sports venues in Bukit Jalil during the SEA Games.
“They can either take the LRT train, park at the other LRT stations leading to Bukit Jalil or at the Selangor Turf Club, which has 3,000 parking bays.
“Entry for the athletics competition is free but I urge fans who want to catch other sports to buy tickets early to avoid last-minute disappointment,” said Khairy at the final leg of the KL SEA Games Torch Run, which ended at the stadium yesterday.
The torch was also taken into the Axiata Arena as a symbolic gesture to indicate the end of the run through 13 states and Federal Territories (KL, Putrajaya and Labuan).
While certain sports require paid tickets, the public can catch the following events for free at various venues: archery, athletics, bowling, boxing, cricket, cycling, equestrian, fencing, golf, hockey, ice hockey, ice skating, judo, lawn bowl, open water, petanque, sailing, shooting, squash, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, waterski and wakeboard, weightlifting and wushu.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.kualalumpur2017.com.my or at stores located at the venues on match days.
