PETALING JAYA: About 3,000 participants took part in the Rising Together-Baton Run in Vientiane, Laos, to promote the Aug 19-31 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan handed over the baton to Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune, the Lao Minister of Education and Sports, before the start of yesterday’s 10km run.

It was the third leg of the run. The first leg was in Brunei on March 5 followed by Manila, the Philippines, on March 12.

From Vientiane, the baton will be taken to Yangon, Myanmar, on March 25. It will be followed by Bangkok (Thailand), Hanoi (Vietnam), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Dili (Timor Leste), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Singapore.

The baton will be handed by Singapore to Malaysia at the Johor Causeway in early May.

In Malaysia, a torch will be lighted and taken all over the country.
