PUTRAJAYA: Teenage water skier Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah will add another world-class event to her hectic schedule next year.

The 13-year-old Malaysian has been invited by the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) to compete in the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland, from July 22-29.

It will be a historic moment for Aaliyah as she is the youngest in the 27-skier field. She will be competing in the tricks event.

Aaliyah, who bagged five golds at the Asian Waterski and Wakeboard Championships in South Korea in August, is the world No. 21 in the Open tricks and No. 6 for the Under-17 class.

“I’m so excited to be selected. It’s such a great honour because this is the first time that I’m invited to compete in a multi-sport event at world level,” said Aaliyah.

Aaliyah’s season will kick off next month. The triple SEA Games double gold medallist will leave for Santiago, Chile, on Dec 29 to compete in the IWWF Junior World Championships from Jan 3-8.

Then, she is down to take part in the IWWF Asian Oceanian Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, from Feb 1-6 and the Moomba Masters in Melbourne, Australia, in March before heading to Florida, the United States, in April for a six-week training stint.

Aaliyah is also scheduled to compete in the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in August.
