Race for Raja Muda Selangor regatta title still wide open

KUALA LUMPUR: The chase for the Class One title in the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR) has been thrown wide open at the end of the second race.

Defending champions Windsikher’s quest for the title was blown off course when they could only finish fourth in the second race from Pangkor to Penang.

EFG Mandrake, led by Fred Kinmonth and Nick Burns, sailed to the top of the class in the overnight race, which began in Pangkor on Monday and ended in Penang on Tuesday.

The Royal Malaysian Navy’s Uranus finished second and Jonathan Mahoney’s Zanzibar were third.

Steve Manning’s Black Baza were fifth while the sixth Class One boat – Ray Roberts’ Team Hollywood – dropped out of the race after hitting a sunken barge.

The fleet will head for Langkawi on Thursday for the final and inshore races.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club in Kuah, Langkawi, on Saturday.
