PETALING JAYA: Malaysian karate exponents Syakilla Salni Jefrey Krishnan and Shree Sharmini Segaran fought their way to bronze medals in the Istanbul leg of the K1 Premier League.
Syakilla, a silver medallist at the 2014 World Championships, suffered an agonising sudden-death loss to Turkey’s Tosun Busra in the women’s kumite below 55kg semi-finals on Sunday. The outcome had to go to sudden death after both exponents could not score in normal time. Syakilla then bounced back to beat Arzu Zeybekler, also of Turkey, 3-0 in the repechage for the bronze.
