Hari Raya windfall to beef up Syarul’s preparation

Syarul Mike Mahen won a silver medal at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Bangkok.

PETALING JAYA: National bodybuilder Syarul Mike Mahen’s Hari Raya Aidifitri windfall will be used to fund his preparation for two major assignments for the year.

The Kuala Lumpur local received RM15,000 from the Athletes’ Incentive Scheme (Shakam) after winning a gold medal at the 49th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Tashkent and a silver medal at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Bangkok last year.

Syarul is the highest earner among the 33 national athletes who received the incentives, totalling RM262,062.50, from Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaludin at the National Sports Council (NSC) on Monday.

The 42-year-old said he would use the incentive for the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (Mr Asia) in Bhutan in August and the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (Mr World) in Pattaya in November.

“I need to thank the Youth and Sports Ministry, National Sports Council (NSC), National Sports Institute (NSI), Malaysian Body Building Federation (MBBF) and my sponsors Celebrity Fitness and Graduan Bersatu for their support,” said Syarul.
