BRUSSELS (Reuters) - European Union antitrust regulators launched on Monday an investigation into rules by the International Skating Union which prevent skaters from taking part in its competitions if they take part in non-ISU approved events.

The move by the European Commission followed a complaint by Dutch Olympic skaters Mark Tuitert and Niels Kerstholt in June last year who said the sport's governing body had threatened a lifetime ban for those who compete in big-money Ice Derby events organised by Korean event organiser Icederby International.
