New NSC director open to new ideas

PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, the new director-general of the National Sports Council (NSC), is open to the idea of letting the national sports associations (NSAs) run their own programmes.

Shapawi was named by the Youth and Sports Ministry to helm the NSC for two years on Thursday. He takes over from Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong with Malaysia down in the doldrums after having failed to achieve the gold-medal targets at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Incheon Asian Games in South Korea.
