Malacca thump Sabah for another big win


PETALING JAYA: Malacca scored another big win in the men’s event at the Agong Cup National Basketball Championships, this time whipping hosts Sabah 100-54 in Tawau on Sunday.

Former champions Malacca, beaten 69-70 by Police in last year’s final, were 107-41 winners over Johor on Saturday.

Forward John Ng and shooting guard Wee Chuan Chin led the way in the 46-point win over Sabah. They scored 14 points each while captain Chee Li Wei contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for an impressive double-double.

Sarawak, who lost 52-67 to Police on the opening day, bounced back to edge Johor 64-61. Ma Vhee Kheun was Sarawak’s hero with 19 points and nine rebounds while Chai Chze Hian added another 15 points.

In the women’s event, Johor clinched their second straight win by beating Pahang 58-49.

Point guard Magdelene Low scored 16 points while towering centre R. Kalaimathi contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Malacca also got into the winning act by thrashing Selangor 75-47.

Forward Goh Beng Fong scored a game-high 37 points while Hee Sook Ying added 15 points and nine rebounds.
