(Reuters) - The International Rugby Board (IRB) will appeal against the decision to clear Australia captain James Horwill of stamping during his side's loss to the British and Irish Lions in the first test but the lock will be free to play in Saturday's second test in Melbourne.

Horwill, 28, was cited for allegedly stamping or trampling on Lions counterpart Alun-Wyn Jones early in the match at Lang Park, which the hosts lost 23-21, but was cleared by judicial officer Nigel Hampton who found the contact to be accidental.
