Diving success due to Jaya 98 programme

KUALA LUMPUR: At 19 years of age, diver Pandelela Rinong has opened a new frontier with a bronze medal in London and the fact that it only took four Olympic cycles to see a Malaysian standing on the podium makes it sweeter.

And for former director general of National Sports Council (NSC) Datuk Wira Mazlan Ahmad, Malaysia would not have had the chance to see Pandelela on the podium if the country had not hosted the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
