KUALA LUMPUR: The Razak Cup hockey competition may be pushed to December while the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) will start earlier.
This are among the changes the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) competitions committee are considering following a hurried meeting in Kuantan on Saturday.
But the changes will only be proposed to the MHC executive council after the technical committee meet with the managers of the MHL teams on Wednesday.
MHC secretary general Johari Abdul Aziz (pic) said that some members felt that the Razak Cup date, set to be held in Kuantan from Sept 1-9, was too close to the Hari Raya festival.
“We are not going to change it yet. But we have agreed to meet the teams on Wednesday before proposing it to the MHC. If we do change the Razak Cup dates, then we will have to bring forward the MHL to early September.
That means the MHL will be completed by mid-October, thus giving the national teams ample time to prepare for the Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Baru from Nov 8-18 and the FIH Champions Challenge I in Argentina in late November.
The MHC will also be hosting the women’s World Series 3 in Kuantan from Sept 9-16.
“Yes, we are short of time because besides the Razak Cup and the MHL, we also have the Under-14 championship and the indoor meet in December on the local calendar,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johari has been chosen to replace Hashim Mohd Yusof as the competitions secretary following the latter’s resignation from the MHC last month.
